At some point during your academic life or professional career, you will have to speak before an audience. Whether it’s to present your class project or your work presentation to your colleagues or your boss – public speaking can typically occur in many dynamics regardless of the size of your audience, but what you want is for your listener to hear you out by understanding you. Learn to engage people by actively encouraging them to listen when you speak. Speak directly and with confidence. Everyone experiences some level of shyness when they are speaking publicly, but knowing your audience requires “speaking for yourself” through your body language, your tone, your clarity, and confidence. You will know your listener and audience are engaged when they are watching, listening and wanting to know what else you have to say!
